Interesting correlations...

Last Monday night, Nathan and I went to Unfinished Furniture, and made a purchase. One purchase which I worked very dillegently on ALL week long. (Hard to do with an every two hour feeding infant, and a four year old who's needy of any attention she can grasp.) But, I managed! :) Needless to mention, I am very proud of the captains bed, and five drawer chest of drawers that I stained (on pine wood), and varnished. (My very first project undertaken as far as finishing some thing in the likelyhood). :) Now, on to interesting correlations. The first time I rinsed my brush of stain, I noticed a smell. Not just a smell, a peculiar one. Since I recognized a smell coming from somewhere...I thought to myself, where do I know this smell from, and WHAT is it? I lifted the wet brush to my nose and found myself missing that old smell from my Papaw's ol'e garage room down in Hickman Ky. That smell is the smell I sensed every time I went into their enclosed garage which held his work space for finish wood projects, (now I know why his work space always smelled so like it did!) some of their storage, and as well, a room off to its own which was his ministerial office. Okay, seriously I thought it was just an "old persons" smell in that garage room b/c of the storage and gardening work, and etc. But now I know. I couldn't help but to take in a extra 'wif' of my paintbrush that I was rinsing because it reminded me instantly of my Papaw, and being in his 'work space.'. I miss my Papaw. He was really good at finishing wooden works and projects. Perhaps I have picked up my talents from him! :)
And really, it is the little things in life that bring us memories, and thoughts of the good ole' times of the days past. And, I thought it was interesting how the smell of a paint brush with stain on it could so suddenly remind me of being with my Papaw.
Today I am thankful for:
1. Natalie becoming a big little girl! She loves her new big bed. It's a captains bed, with a trundle and three drawers, so it's a little big twin size bed, but really big with her little self in it. Seeing her in it almost brings tears to me, b/c the reality of her getting older knocks me in the face. Whew....anyways.......
2. For Nathan being at home today. He's off work.
3. Bradley and Natalie napping at the same time for the past two days now! :) I am supposed to nap too, when they do, but man that Mommy time is nice.
4. I am thankful getting our new heating and air unit put in/installed. We've fought with our old heater for a good year and a half now.
5. For my camera! I love taking pictures.
6. For the sweetness from the friends at our church. The love just keeps pouring over Bradley.
7. I am tremendously thankful for our preacher and his wife. They are such sweet people, and truley lead their lifes through the Lord. Last week he gave his resignation in due to being led to work as the active chaplain at the Childrens Christian home in Hopkinsville Ky. There isn't one there, and he's been working for our church and the this home for some time now, and he feels a need to be at the home full time. So our church will be losing him. However it's been great having him for as long as we have at our church.
8. I am thankful for Tina! I am not sure if I have thanked her enough, but she's been just great at being around, and doing things for us since Bradley's birth. She just loves my kids (who couldn't!) and it shows everyday! We love her too!
9. A talk pretty much every day with my Mom on the phone. It's been awhile since I saw her last, and I MISS Her. ~ Love you Mom!~
10. My Mother in law! (what other Mother in law makes a pecan pie for ya? I thought only Mamaw's did that! )
11. Promising hope! ;)

I have a flannel shirt of Grnadpas that I've kept in a sealed plastic bag and every so often I open it up and that same smell floods my mind with memories too. I'm very thankful God put a memory link to our senses of smell.
